Primary Objective: Responsible for managing core internal communications strategies, processes, and content development leading to improved employee engagement and morale. Strategy will be developed in conjunction with senior executives including People and Culture and Marketing and Communications. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work closely, and collaboratively, with People & Culture Department to develop, and implement internal communication campaigns that drive awareness and engagement with the organization and People and Culture programs; connecting employees to one another.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President, Communications as well as the President, Business Operations and SVPs of People & Culture and Marketing and Communications, and other leaders to clarify internal communications goals and develop and implement strategies, tactics, and tools to achieve those goals.
  • Map and optimize internal communications channels. Implement new channels and feedback mechanisms, or retire existing ones as needed.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices to incorporate new techniques into internal communications.
  • Collaborate with IT, staff leaders and external consultants to build up the SharePoint-based intranet. Work with department leads to strategize and implement SharePoint communications sites to meet internal communications goals. Guide processes to develop visual and editorial standards, and support teams to build out SharePoint sites.
  • Lead the creation of a storytelling strategy to highlights the culture and benefits of working at the Seattle Mariners with prospective and current team members.
  • Develop and oversee a master internal communication calendar, highlighting departmental initiatives/projects for visibility across the organization, writing and editing onboarding and exit announcements, leading on-going updates of Employee Handbook and assisting in annual internal training needs.
  • Develop content for our internal communication channels. Assist in content creation for internal and external uses which reflects the consistent voice and brand image desired
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications through digital analytics, surveys, and other key performance indicators. Lead a community of content creators and subject matter experts across the organization to share best practice and identify emerging needs and provide editorial leadership for internal communications intranet and other tasks related to improved engagement for Seattle Mariners employees.
  • Responsible for developing policy and best practices governing organization’s internal communications. Analyze interrelationships of target audiences and advise organization on messaging sequencing.
  • Clarify and manage editorial process for internal emergency communications.
  • Provide process and editorial support for messaging originating from People & Culture, Marketing and Communications and the President’s office.
  • Repurpose stories developed for external communications to meet internal communications goals.
  • Assist with the creation and presentation of PowerPoint slide decks and other presentation materials for use in Rundown Live All Staff Meetings, Event Staff Orientation and other large team meetings.
  • Develop and provide trainings for senior staff on internal communications styles, processes, and procedures.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public relations, internal corporate communications, journalism or other related field preferred. Equivalent, relevant work may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in internal communications, public relations or other communications with at least three (3) years of experience in a leadership role. Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Wordpress preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging content for a variety of internal communications mediums including emails, handbooks, training material, as well as intranet sites for Front Office and Event Staff employees).
  • Collaborate across departments to improve information flow and knowledge sharing.
